07 May Greenville FC falls in NPSL debut
McDONOUGH, Ga. — Greenville FC lost 3-1 in its inaugural match Friday against the Georgia Revolution.
Lander men’s soccer coach Lee Squires is the coach of Greenville FC, which is playing its first year in the National Premier Soccer League.
E.J. Henry scored twice in the first six minutes to put the Revolution up 2-0, but Greenville played even the rest of the way.
The Revolution tacked on another goal before half, but Greenville FC stepped up its play in the second half to hold the Revolution scoreless.
Michelangelo Dovidio scored the first goal in Greenville FC history in the 73rd minute when he received a Malcolm Frago corner kick and found the back post to make it 3-1.
Greenville FC will open its home slate at 7 p.m. May 12 against Inter Nashville FC at Furman University’s Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium.
The NPSL is in the fourth division of the US Soccer pyramid. The league includes 98 teams, which are split up by 13 conferences in four regions.
