20 Mar McDonough’s going strong without longtime owner on St. Patrick’s Day
Billy Lee’s daughter Debra Lee is managing McDonough’s bar on McDonough Street. Billy, who died in December at the age of 84, owned the bar since 1987.
St. Patrick’s Day to her is filled with sprinting around the two-room venue serving drinks and taking care of customers. Debra said this St. Patrick’s Day is their first without him.
“We spend extra money hiring door guys and security and things like that,” Debra said. “They use the counters at the door to make sure we don’t reach capacity and still allow more customers in the door.”
From the looks of the lengthy line outside, and the crowded bar-tops inside, Debra is doing her father proud.
