McDonough GA considers itself a town for all seasons. Visitors flock to this city which is located near the Atlanta Motor Speedway. The city is also home to the Miss Georgia USA pageant and many different sports tournaments.

The city is easily accessible to Atlanta and sits right along I-75. The historic town square is trimmed with geraniums in the summer and serves as the heart of the downtown area. Entertainment events and festivals are held here throughout the year.

The city is located in Henry County and is about 30 minutes from Atlanta. It has a population of around 23,000 and is the county seat. The town was founded in 1823 and was named after Commodore Thomas Macdonough, a naval officer. It was built around the town square which includes the historic jail and the country courthouse. Today, the town’s Welcome Center is in an old Standard Oil station which has been historically restored.

The Henry County Judicial Center is located a block off the town square in an old cotton warehouse. The Henry County Annex is in the same area. This Annex contains a Jean Charlot original oil on canvas. This work was painted in 1942 and was destined for the town post office. Charlot’s works are internationally famous and may be found throughout the world.

The city’s primary industry is Snapper Inc. This is a professional and residential snow removal and lawn care equipment, manufacturer. Founded in 1894, the company was sold to Briggs and Stratton. The plant closed in 2015 and has not been replaced with a new business. The proximity to Atlanta has allowed McDonough GA to remain a vibrant city.
